Jon Betts is a registered pharmacist with over 30 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry.  He began his career at Pfizer, Sandwich working in Pharmaceutical Research and Development before moving to Glaxo Operations, Barnard Castle and then Rhone- Poulenc, Dagenham. He has gained considerable production experience in the manufacture of tablets, sterile pharmaceutical products, creams and ointments and is eligible to act as a Qualified Person.

He spent five years at the UK Department of Health, Medicines Division (now MHRA) where he was the Principal Pharmaceutical Assessor for biological products.  In 1986 he joined Alpha Therapeutic UK as a key member of the management team providing leadership and direction on all technical matters.  As the Director of Technical Affairs for this specialist blood products/biologicals company, which also marketed some conventional injectable products, he set up a highly successful regulatory group with international responsibility.  To meet business needs, he established a small , self-contained clinical research group.  As the company nominated QP, he set up and managed a pharmaceutical packaging operation.  Alpha's turnover increased from £4 million in 1986 to nearly £15 million in 1997.

A take-over of the Alpha UK subsidiary by the Spanish company Grifols led to an internationally focused role in Technical Affairs.  However, in 1999 he was asked to rejoin Alpha and to re-establish their technical operations in Europe.  After a further successful phase with Alpha, Jon left to start Pharmitas in 2003.

Jon is respected internationally having been Chairman of the plasma products industry Regulatory Affairs Working Group. He has given a number of talks at international meetings on topics ranging from biotechnology to pharmacovigilance and he has many contacts throughout Europe.
